Making Moves – Prepping for Denmark, One Decision at a Time
As we get closer to our next chapter in Denmark, life at home in Asheville has shifted into a whole new mode: full-on transition. Our goal? To get our house rental-ready—fully furnished—and figure out what’s coming with us across the Atlantic.
It’s an exciting and slightly overwhelming phase, full of choices, edits, and reflection. After years of building a home together here, we're now walking through every room asking: Does this stay? Does this ship? Does this get sold or passed along?
Preparing the House for Rent
We’ve decided to rent out our Asheville home furnished. That means making it feel finished and welcoming, without being too personal. We’ve been:
Touching up paint and repairing little things we’ve lived with for too long
Editing decor to strike the right balance between styled and lived-in
Creating a furnishings inventory for future tenants
It’s a bit surreal to imagine someone else living in our space, but also exciting to offer a beautiful, fully-equipped home in the heart of Asheville.
Sorting, Selling, and Shipping
The second big piece of this transition is figuring out what comes with us to Denmark. We’ve started going room by room and:
Making piles for Denmark, donate, sell, and let go
Identifying heirloom or sentimental pieces we can’t part with
Planning a shipment of essential furniture, art, and personal items to send over
Holding a few local sales for pieces we love but know won’t make the trip
I love this old work bench…Might not want to get rid of it. It’s so hard!
The process is both liberating and emotional. As a designer, I’ve always helped others edit and curate their spaces—now I’m doing it with our life’s collection.
Going through things…
What We’re Learning
This season is reminding us just how much our stuff tells our story—and how freeing it is to choose intentionally what continues with us.
So many baskets, boxes, and containers!
We’re making space for a new rhythm of living in Denmark. It’s a lot, but it’s exactly the kind of project we love: full of beauty, function, and meaning.
We’ll keep sharing the process here and on Instagram @studioointeriors—next up: what we learned about shipping your life across the ocean!
