Our Crate Arrived – Unpacking Denmark
It’s here! After weeks of planning, packing, and tracking, our crate made its journey across the Atlantic and officially arrived in Denmark this past Friday. There’s something surreal about seeing a wooden box sitting at the end of your driveway, holding the edited-down version of your life from the U.S.
Because of access limitations, the freight company was only able to drop the crate at the top of our driveway. Thankfully, we were prepared with our new trailer to shuttle everything down to the house—one load at a time.
The crate has arrived!
Unpacking the Pieces of Home
We opened the crate to find everything exactly as we had packed it: layered with intention, full of story, and tightly packed into every nook and cranny. We had taken extra care with:
Vintage Danish lighting, including pieces from my late uncle's home.
Asheville artwork, chosen to keep our U.S. roots close
Family treasures, like hand-painted chargers with our Danish family crest
Furniture and décor, softened with throws and textiles
We unpacked in waves, appreciating each item all over again as it found its place in our new home. It was both grounding and emotional to unwrap memories and meaningful objects now surrounded by the Danish countryside.
The Trailer Was a Hero
Without driveway access for the delivery truck, we relied on our new trailer to get everything from the crate to the house. It took a few trips and some teamwork.
Using the trailer to get our things up to the house! It’s been a good purchase.
Reflections on the Journey
Looking back, it’s hard to believe how much planning went into that one crate—and how smoothly it all came together in the end. From sorting and packing to navigating customs and coordinating delivery, each step was worth it.
Now, as we settle in and begin styling our Danish home, we’re filled with gratitude that everything arrived safely—and incredibly inspired by what’s next.
We’ll be sharing more soon, including a look at how we’re styling our Danish home with these deeply personal pieces.
